Sheet vinyl, sometimes commonly known as cushion floor, comes in large flexible sheets. It is typically sold in 2, 3 or 4 metre widths, and is between 1mm and 4mm thick. Being impermeable to water makes it a popular choice for kitchens, utility, playrooms and bathrooms where splashes and spills are frequent. Available in both felt and foam-backed options there is also a wide range of colours and designs available to suit every style and budget.
As the name suggests, Luxury Vinyl Tile provides a tough, high-quality flooring which comes in either tiles or planks dependent on whether it is wood, ceramic or stone effect. It is typically between 5mm and 12mm thick and may often feature textures designed to mimic stone or wood effects such as cracking or grain. While LVT is a more expensive option to sheet vinyl, it can still offer an affordable and credible alternative to real wood or stone flooring solutions.
For both kinds of vinyl flooring a flat subfloor is advised. Particularly with a very thin sheet vinyl, any imperfections in the subfloor can risk showing through. Investment in a good underlay, plywood boarding or leveling compound is recommended and our experienced team can help advise you on the best solution for your individual circumstances.
